Service Robotics (Laboratory, WS 2006/2007)
|Instructor:||Prof. Gerhard Lakemeyer, Ph.D.|
One applications for mobile robots is the service robotics. Examples are tourguide robots in museums, security robots, or robots helping in healthcare. Besides low-level tasks like localization or navigation the robots must be able to make intelligent decisions and to interact with humans.The Knowledge-based Systems Group has a team of soccer robots which were also designed for service robotics applications. In RoboCup 2006 we also participate in the new RoboCup@home league which focuses on service robotics tasks in a domestic environment. The goal of the lab is to develop a service robotics application for storage picking. The robot should navigate autonomously through a storage environment and help a warehouseman to pick packages. This application includes tasks like mapping the environment, navigation, and localization, but also human machine interaction like informing the warehouseman which goods to pack.
